Stevenson Memorial Hospital rendering
Construction is progressing on the $405-million redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital, according to a recent update.
The redevelopment will more than double the hospital’s current size, creating approximately 147,100 square feet of modern healthcare space to serve the needs of a growing community. Plans include all single-patient rooms, an expanded Emergency Department, new diagnostic imaging services, the hospital’s first MRI suite and expanded obstetrical services.
A new helipad is already in use, with the first Ornge helicopter landing last month.
Through its Because of YOU campaign, Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation is working to raise $80 million to support the redevelopment. With $35 million remaining to reach its goal over the next 30 months, the Foundation says continued community support will be essential.
“This redevelopment is about more than a new building. It’s about ensuring our community has access to the healthcare services and spaces it needs for years to come,” said Dr. Ted Vandevis, CEO of Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has already stepped forward to support this campaign. Their generosity is helping shape the future of healthcare close to home, and we look forward to continuing this work together as the project progresses.”
Local businesses, community organizations, families, and individual donors are all contributing to the campaign and helping support the hospital’s future needs.
While the Ontario government is funding 90 per cent of construction costs, the community is responsible for the remaining 10%, along with all furniture, fixtures and equipment required for the new hospital. The Foundation’s $80-million campaign is helping meet that responsibility.
The Foundation’s Every Dollar Counts matching program, made possible through the Morningview Foundation, also provides an opportunity to increase the impact of eligible new donations. Eligible donations are being matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $1.34 million annually for three years.
As construction continues, the Foundation is encouraging residents, businesses and community partners to contribute to the Because of YOU campaign.
