Innisfil and Barrie are in cleanup mode after a tornado tore through a south end Barrie neighbourhood and the high winds hit parts of northeast Innisfil.
While there were no injuries reported in Innisfil but 8 Barrie residents had to be hospitalized, 4 with serious injuries.
There were no fatalities.
Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin spoke of the damage on the town’s YouTube Channel.
The damaged homes were in Sandycove Acres but Mayor Dollin is asking for restraint from residents and not to go rubbernecking through affected areas.
About 2,000 InnPower customers lost hydro Thursday (jul 15) after the storm hit but they have since had the lights turned back on.
South Simcoe Police were deployed in Barrie to aid there and Innisfil’s Operation’s Staff offered help to Barrie, as well.
Fire officials said up to 25 buildings in Barrie suffered significant damage, with roughly 20 considered uninhabitable at this time, with two or three complete write-offs.
