
Police were keeping a keen eye on drivers this past Canada Road Safety Week (may16-22).
Of those stopped, approximately 12,600 were handed tickets for infractions related to unsafe driving practices.
OPP responded to 7 fatalities during the annual week long initiative on OPP patrolled roads, 3 of which happened over the long weekend.
Officers laid over 7000 charges for speeding or stunt driving, 622 people were not buckled up, 245 were impaired by alcohol or drugs and 144 people were charged with being distracted.
