You can learn all about the second oldest active police service in Ontarop!
The Barrie Police Service has been in existence since 1853. Their officers have been patrolling the community for a long time, and you can take a course that dives into everything behind-the-scenes.
They’re offering an eight-week Citizen Police Academy to learn how the police service is “committed to our community.” Representatives from various police units will share information in their area of expertise, including:
- Training
- Forensic Identification
- Marine, Traffic
- Mobile Crisis and Response Team (MCRT)
- K9
- Human Trafficking
- Homicide and Tactical Support
These informative sessions of the Citizen Police Academy will begin on Wednesday, October 9th, and continue each Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a graduation event being held on Wednesday, November 27th.
Class size will be limited to 20 participants, with preference being given to applicants who reside in Barrie. Successful candidates will be required to successfully pass a police background check due to the sensitive nature of the material that will be presented.
To qualify, interested applicants must be:
- 18 years of age or older;
- have no criminal record; and
- of good moral character.
All interested candidates should contact Constable Kelvin He at 7432@barriepolice.ca to learn more and apply by Monday, September 9th.
