If you’re looking to plant native trees and shrubs this spring, the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) invites you to their 35th annual Arbour Day Tree Sale this weekend!
Trees are sold in bundles of 10 for $35, with bare root seedlings available in a variety of species, including red oak, white pine, white cedar, nannyberry, and more. Quantities are limited and sold on a first come, first serve basis – many buyers line up early, and half the inventory typically sells within the first hour.
“The trees sold at our Arbour Day Tree Sale are bare root seedlings,” says Rick Grillmayer, Manager of Forestry at NVCA. “Although bare root seedlings are younger and smaller than potted trees, they are less expensive and have loose roots that allow them to extend into the soil for moisture and nutrients.”
Proceeds from the sale support NVCA’s forestry program, which will plant over 71,000 trees across the watershed this year to help fight climate change, reduce erosion, and support wildlife.
It’s happening on Saturday, May 10th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Tiffin Centre for Conservation in Utopia, just minutes from Barrie, Innisfil and Angus.
