The Ontario government is inviting Canadian residents to enjoy a weekend of free fishing across the province in celebration of Father’s Day.
On Saturday, June 14th and Sunday, June 15th, families can cast a line without needing a fishing licence, making it the perfect opportunity to enjoy Ontario’s great outdoors.
“This Father’s Day weekend, take the opportunity to head outdoors, cast a line and create lasting memories with the people who matter most,” says Mike Harris, Minister of Natural Resources. “Whether it’s your first-time fishing or a time-honoured family tradition, this is a great way to explore Ontario’s beautiful lakes and rivers while supporting the local communities, jobs and businesses that depend on our province’s diverse fishing opportunities.”
Fishing is a major contributor to Ontario’s economy, generating $1.75 billion annually and supporting thousands of local jobs. Events like this help introduce new anglers to the sport while strengthening family traditions and community bonds.
Anglers must still follow all conservation licence limits, size restrictions, and fishing regulations during the free weekend. Canadian residents taking part must also carry government-issued ID showing their name and date of birth.
This weekend is the third of four free fishing opportunities in Ontario this year. The next one is Family Fishing Week, running from June 28th to July 6th.
