A 40-year-old Barrie resident is facing multiple charges after Nottawasaga OPP officers discovered them asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle in Essa Township.
The incident happened on October 13th, shortly after 8:30 a.m., near Willoughby Road and the 5th Line.
Police say detected the smell of alcohol and suspected the driver was impaired. When asked to provide a breath sample, the driver refused. The individual was arrested and charged with failure or refusal to comply with demand, failing to surrender an insurance card, and failing to surrender a vehicle permit.
The accused received a 90-day driver’s license suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. They are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on November 6th.
The OPP remind drivers that refusing a breath test carries the same consequences as an impaired driving charge under the Criminal Code of Canada, stressing that no amount of alcohol or drugs is safe when behind the wheel.
