A months-long investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has led to the seizure of over $73,000 worth of illegal cannabis products and the arrest of two New Tecumseth residents.
On Thursday, October 16th, at around 11:40 a.m., members of the Nottawasaga and Dufferin Community Street Crime Units, along with the Crime Reduction Unit, executed a Cannabis Act search warrant at Mohawk Medical 420 on Victoria Street West in Alliston.
The investigation began earlier this summer after officers received reports that the store was allegedly selling cannabis products without a valid licence. During the search, police seized more than 27lbs of dried cannabis, hundreds of edibles, oils, and pre-rolls, along with suspected hash, THC vapes, and shatter. The total estimated value of the seized products was just over $73,700.
A 45-year-old and a 52-year-old from New Tecumseth were each charged with possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling and possession of illicit cannabis. The older suspect also faces four counts of failing to comply with an undertaking. Both individuals are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Anyone with information about illegal drug activity is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online.
