Simcoe County says residential recycling collection will shift to Circular Materials management next year.
It all starts on January 1st, as part of Ontario’s new producer-responsibility framework. However, Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (IC&I) properties – including small businesses, food banks, and places of worship – will no longer receive curbside recycling collection.
Warden Basil Clarke said while the County supports the goal of long-term waste reduction, the exclusion of certain properties “presents challenges” and could lead to more recyclable materials entering the waste stream. The County will continue to provide garbage and organics collection, but affected organizations must make alternative recycling arrangements or bring materials to County waste facilities for a fee.
Residential recycling collection will continue as usual, now handled by Emterra Environmental Inc. on behalf of Circular Materials.
