A 23-year-old New Tecumseth resident is facing impaired driving charges following a single-vehicle rollover over the weekend.
According to Nottawasaga OPP, officers responded to a collision on 14th Line in New Tecumseth at around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 14th, where a vehicle had left the roadway and overturned in a steep ditch. Three occupants were assisted from the vehicle with help from emergency services, and two passengers were taken to hospital with significant injuries before later being discharged. Police say the driver was also taken to hospital as a precaution and released with minor injuries.
Following an investigation, officers determined the driver’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and charged with:
- Operation causing bodily harm
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Bradford in January. As part of the charges, the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
OPP are reminding motorists, especially during the holiday season, to plan ahead and make safe transportation choices, noting impaired driving remains a leading cause of death on Ontario roads. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is urged to call 9-1-1, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
