The Ontario government is investing more than $12.5 million to rehabilitate water infrastructure in Alliston, supporting wastewater capacity, public health, and future growth in New Tecumseth.
Brian Saunderson, Member of Provincial Parliament for Simcoe – Grey, announced up to $12,527,165 in provincial funding through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS). The funding will be used for clarifier rehabilitation at the Alliston Wastewater Treatment Plant, a key component of the town’s wastewater system.
“This provincial investment will help ensure Alliston’s wastewater system can increase operational capacity and improve treatment effectiveness, supporting both current needs and future growth,” says Saunderson. “By strengthening core infrastructure today, we are helping New Tecumseth plan with confidence for the years ahead.”
Mayor Richard Norcross said the project addresses a critical need for the community.
“This investment supports one of the most critical components of our Town’s wastewater system. As a community, we rely on resilient infrastructure every day, and I’m grateful to the Province and to MPP Saunderson for their support.”
The funding is part of Ontario’s broader $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, included in the province’s $220 billion capital plan to support transit, highways, hospitals, schools, and water infrastructure that enables housing development. Acting Minister of Infrastructure Todd McCarthy said the investment is intended to protect communities and support economic growth.
“Through our historic $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are giving municipalities and First Nations the tools they need to get shovels in the ground and build stronger communities.”
Simcoe County Warden Basil Clarke also welcomed the announcement, noting the importance of infrastructure investment across the region.
“Expanding and modernizing critical services and infrastructure across Simcoe County remains a key priority for the County and our municipal partners. We thank the Province for once again stepping forward with this important investment, which will help New Tecumseth and surrounding communities grow, build, and create more jobs.”
Ontario increased the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program to $4 billion in August 2025, with the Health and Safety Water Stream launched earlier that year to support safe drinking water and wastewater systems across the province.
