Barrie Police have arrested a man wanted on multiple charges after he attempted to flee from officers and rammed two police cruisers.
On Tuesday, January 27th, officers were notified that a man wanted by South Simcoe Police had been spotted in the area of Mulcaster Street. Before officers arrived, the man had left the location.
Officers proceeded to the man’s last known address in Barrie, where they located a vehicle in the driveway with its interior light on and what appeared to be two occupants inside. While officers waited for additional units to arrive, the vehicle suddenly backed out of the driveway and began driving away.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle using emergency lights and sirens, but the driver failed to stop. During the attempted escape, the driver struck two police cruisers. The vehicle was unable to continue fleeing, and the driver was taken into custody without further incident. Police say the cruisers sustained minimal damage and no injuries were reported.
During the arrest, officers detected the odour of alcohol and observed delayed responses from the driver. A subsequent investigation uncovered suspected fentanyl, suspected methamphetamine, and several baggies containing unknown pills inside the vehicle. The accused was transported to the police station, where a breath test administered by a qualified technician confirmed impairment.
The accused faces multiple charges, including:
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Flight from peace officer
- Dangerous operation
- Assault peace officer with a weapon (x2)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Possession of a Scheduled 1 Substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance – opioid

The passenger in the vehicle was initially detained but later released without conditions.
The investigation remains ongoing.
