
Barrie Police vehicle
A Barrie man is facing multiple charges after a pedestrian was struck and seriously injured at a city intersection.
Barrie Police say officers were called just before 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11th to the intersection of Sunnidale Road and Wellington Street West, where a woman had been hit by a vehicle. Officers arrived within minutes and found the pedestrian suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver remained at the scene.
Barrie Fire and Emergency Service and Simcoe County paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital. During the investigation, officers say the driver was unable to provide valid documentation and was observed moving items in the vehicle, while also showing signs of impairment, including constricted pupils, slow movements, and slurred speech.
A 56-year-old Barrie man was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of Schedule 1 Substance – Methamphetamine
- Operation causing bodily harm
- Operation motor vehicle on highway – no insurance
- Driver fail to surrender licence
- Driver fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
