The Ontario government is providing more than $26 million in funding to support ice storm recovery efforts in Barrie and Innisfil.
The province says up to $26,559,000 will be delivered through the Municipal Ice Storm Assistance program to help cover clean-up and emergency response costs following a severe storm on March 28th, 2025. The funding includes approximately $26.2 million for the City of Barrie and $365,000 for the Town of Innisfil.
“The City of Barrie faced some of the most significant impacts from the 2025 Ice Storm,” says MPP Doug Downey. “This funding will help support the cost of the clean up efforts and ensure that Barrie is able to rebuild stronger than ever.”
The March 2025 storm caused widespread damage across central and eastern Ontario, leaving nearly 400,000 homes and businesses without power and resulting in significant impacts in Barrie and Innisfil, including downed hydro lines, property damage and prolonged outages.
“The impact of the ice storm was experienced by the Town of Innisfil community members firsthand, as families faced power outages, damaged property and infrastructure, and disrupted daily life,” adds MPP Andrea Khanjin. “This investment indicates our government’s commitment to providing storm recovery resources, building necessary reinforcements, and ensuring resilience and emergency preparedness.”
The funding is part of a broader $90 million provincial program launched in 2025 to support municipalities, businesses and organizations affected by the storm.
