It’s been a messy series between the Alliston Hornets and the Stayner Siskins.
Despite initially winning Game #3 of the North Carruthers Division Finals 7-4, the Hornets had to forfeit the match-up due to an issue with a player’s status. That changed the historical records to a 5-0 win for Stayner, giving the Siskins a 2-1 series lead heading into Game #4 on Friday, March 27th.
This one was all Stayner, with the Hornets struggling to find consistently at any point. The Siskins scored first, with Alliston answering right back in the first period. It was 1-1 after 20 minutes.
The Hornets would even take a quick lead in the second period before Stayner tied it up. The Siskins would then take the lead back, and proceed to never look back. When it was all said and done, the Hornets lost 7-2 to Stayner.
Riley Arts was in net for the Hornets. He stopped 27 of the 33 shots he faced, giving him an .818% save percentage.
Luckily, Game #5 wasn’t too far away, as it took place on Sunday, March 29th.
The Hornets started off stronger this time, with Tristen Pitt giving them the lead in the first period. Ben Smith was also able to find the back of the net, and after some back-and-forth action, the game was tied 2-2 after 20 minutes.
In the second period, Stayner scored to take the lead. Despite leading the game in shots on goal, the Hornets found themselves down 3-2 with the series on the line heading into the final period.
It was Duncan Grube who played the hero in this one for Alliston. Not only did he tie the game in the third to send it to overtime, but he also scored the game winner in OT to give the Hornets some life in the series. They beat the Siskins 4-3 in OT to claim Game #5, and bring the series to 3-2 for Stayner.
Alliston went right back to Riley Arts for this one. He stopped 29 of 32 shots for the .906% save percentage and the win.
Game #6 will now take place on Wednesday, April 1st at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre. It’s scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Ticket details can be found here.
