A Barrie man is facing impaired driving charges following a two-vehicle collision in the city.
Officers responded to the crash shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23rd, near the intersection of Veteran’s Drive and Mapleview Drive West. Emergency crews attended the scene and confirmed that no one, including a two-year-old passenger, suffered serious injuries.
During the investigation, officers observed suspected cannabis inside one of the vehicles and noted signs of impairment from the driver, including unsteadiness, red eyes, and a strong odour of cannabis.
The driver was taken to police headquarters, where a Drug Recognition Expert determined his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by a drug.
As a result, a 33-year-old Barrie man has been charged with operation while impaired and driving with cannabis readily available. His vehicle was also impounded for seven days.
Police are reminding motorists that driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol remains a serious offence that can put lives at risk.
