South Simcoe Police Cruiser, from the FM 92 files
Two Barrie residents are facing multiple charges after South Simcoe Police stopped the same uninsured vehicle twice in one morning.
Police say the initial stop occurred at around 6:50 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15th, when officers observed a vehicle with an expired 10-day permit travelling from County Road 88 onto Highway 400 southbound in Bradford West Gwillimbury. Investigators determined the man, who held a G1 licence, was driving without a qualified accompanying driver and on a prohibited highway, while the vehicle was also uninsured and lacked a valid permit.
Officers say the same vehicle was located again at around 9:40 a.m. at 10 Sideroad and County Road 89 in Innisfil, this time being driven by a woman with the original driver as a passenger. Police confirmed the vehicle remained uninsured and still displayed the expired permit, leading officers to seize the licence plates and have the vehicle towed.
A 36-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both from Barrie, have been charged with multiple offences:
- Drive motor vehicle – no currently validated permit
- G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver
- G1 licence holder – driving on a prohibited highway
- Operate motor vehicle without insurance
- Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
- Fail to notify of a change of address (owner)
- Owner permit operation – no insurance
- Owner operate motor vehicle – no currently validated permit
- Permit operation of motor vehicle no insurance
Police say the incident serves as a reminder that driving without insurance is a serious offence, and enforcement efforts will continue to ensure road safety.
