A Barrie youth is facing multiple charges following an altercation near a local high school earlier this week.
Barrie Police say the incident took place on Tuesday, April 7th near Bear Creek Secondary School, where officers were called after reports of a pre-arranged fight involving several individuals, some wearing disguises. Investigators say a group had gathered in a wooded area near the school before dispersing prior to police arrival, and one individual was believed to have been armed with a weapon described as a sheathed machete. One victim, a 17-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
As part of the ongoing investigation, officers arrested a 15-year-old boy on Thursday, April 9th at a residence in south Barrie and collected evidence linking him to the incident. He is now facing multiple charges, including:
- carrying a concealed weapon
- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- assault with a weapon
- assault causing bodily harm
- disguise with intent
The youth’s identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Police say the incident is believed to be isolated with no ongoing risk to public safety, and the investigation remains ongoing as officers continue working to identify others involved.
