More than 50 students from across Simcoe County are preparing to compete on the provincial stage as part of Team SCDSB at the 2026 Skills Ontario Competition.
The Simcoe County District School Board announced that 52 secondary school students from 10 schools have qualified for the annual event, which takes place May 4th and 5th. The competition showcases skilled trades and technology careers, bringing together thousands of students from across Ontario to compete in dozens of categories.
Students earned their spots after competing in regional qualifiers held throughout March. Team SCDSB will be represented across a wide range of disciplines, including carpentry, culinary arts, robotics, graphic design, automotive trades and more.
Organizers say participation in the competition is supported by dedicated teachers, along with programs such as the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM), which help students gain hands-on experience and prepare for careers in the skilled trades.
The Skills Ontario Competition continues to play a key role in promoting trades and technology pathways, giving students an opportunity to showcase their skills while exploring future career opportunities.
