The Town of Innisfil is getting ready to tackle road damage head-on with a community-wide Pothole Blitz, set to begin Monday, May 4th.
Officials say the goal is to repair about 900 potholes over about 12 days of dry weather, following a winter marked by repeated freeze-thaw cycles that have taken a toll on local roads. With asphalt plants reopening for the season, crews will now shift to using hot mix asphalt, a more durable solution that requires consistent above-freezing temperatures and dry conditions.
“Our crews have been patching potholes with temporary materials throughout the winter whenever conditions allowed, but creating a lasting repair requires hot asphalt,” says Nicole Bowman, the Town’s Director of Operations, noting the blitz will be an “all-out effort” to improve road conditions.
Nearly the entire operations team will be deployed, with the road network divided into sections to maximize efficiency. Repairs will be prioritized based on road class, severity, and safety risk, using provincial maintenance standards as a guide.
Residents are encouraged to report potholes by contacting the Town, providing details such as location, direction of travel, and photos where possible. Drivers are also being reminded to slow down and follow traffic controls while crews are on the roads.
