A stolen bicycle investigation in downtown Barrie has led to multiple drug trafficking charges after an officer recognized the bike while on patrol.
According to Barrie Police, an officer spotted the bicycle on Dunlop Street East near Mary Street on Wednesday, April 29th, matching the description of one reported stolen days earlier. The cyclist was stopped and taken into custody.
During a search, police say officers located suspected drugs, including three golf ball-sized substances believed to be crack cocaine, along with a significant amount of cash.
The stolen bicycle, valued at about $1,300, has since been returned to its owner.
A 39-year-old Barrie man is now facing several charges:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of Proceeds of Property obtained by Crime under $5,000
Police say there will be an increased officer presence in the downtown core heading into the summer, with a focus on public safety and addressing illegal activity.
