Students at Bradford District High School are expanding their efforts to fight food insecurity thanks to a $25,000 grant from the FCC AgriSpirit Fund.
The funding is supporting the school’s Nourish Bradford project, which provides fresh produce to more than 100 local seniors, residents at a nearby mental health facility, and students and families in the community throughout the growing season.
The grant helped fund upgrades to the school’s greenhouse and the construction of a new garden shed. Students help maintain the garden during the school year and can also earn volunteer hours over the summer by caring for the space and harvesting produce.
The FCC AgriSpirit Fund supports projects in communities with populations under 150,000 that focus on areas including food security, agriculture, environmental sustainability, accessibility, and inclusion.
