The Town of New Tecumseth is preparing to begin construction on five new pedestrian crossovers across Beeton, Tottenham and Alliston later this summer.
The municipality says Triton Engineering Services has been hired to help oversee the project, which will include upgrades aimed at improving pedestrian safety and accessibility.
New crossovers are planned for the following intersections:
- Main Street and Centre Street in Beeton
- Mill Street East and McGahey Street in Tottenham
- Mill Street East and McCurdy Drive in Tottenham
- Queen Street South and Rogers Road in Tottenham
- Boyne Street and John W. Taylor Avenue in Alliston
The work will include new sidewalks with textured safety surfaces, curbs and gutters, crosswalk markings, flashing beacons, push buttons and new streetlights. Officials say curb bump-outs and storm sewer work will also be completed at the Main Street and Centre Street intersection in Beeton.
Construction is expected to begin during the week of June 29th and continue through August 14th. Roads are expected to remain open during the project, although temporary lane reductions may be required.
