A routine traffic stop in Barrie has resulted in drug trafficking charges against a Gravenhurst man after police allegedly discovered cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle.
Barrie Police say officers were patrolling the area of Duckworth Street and Grove Street East at about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26th when they observed a vehicle enter an intersection against a red light without stopping or slowing down.
After initiating a traffic stop, officers reported seeing a white powdery substance and suspected drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. All four occupants were arrested on suspicion of drug possession.
During the investigation, police allegedly located a quantity of suspected crack cocaine and cocaine, more than $1,400 in cash, and additional drug paraphernalia.
As a result, a 40-year-old Gravenhurst man has been charged with:
- Possession of Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000
A 46-year-old woman from Scarborough is charged with:
- Failure to Stop at a Red Light
- Driving While Under Suspension (x3)
The remaining two occupants were released without charges.
