Coldwater Public School will take a step back in time this week as students, staff, families and community members gather to open a time capsule that has been sealed since 1995.
The Simcoe County District School Board says the time capsule will be unveiled during the school’s Spring School BBQ this week after it was recently rediscovered at the school.
The capsule was assembled when a major addition was built at the school in 1995. Students at the time were invited to contribute artwork, writing and other items representing school life and the community.
Among those who contributed to the capsule was current principal Jennifer Viherjoki, who was a Grade 8 student at Coldwater Public School when it was created.
“It’s an honour to be involved in the opening of the time capsule,” says Viherjoki. “There are so many people who are part of our current school community that contributed items as students. It will be a great full-circle moment for them to see what is inside.”
The Spring School BBQ begins at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 4th, with the time capsule reveal scheduled for 5:00 p.m., at Coldwater Public School, located at 33 Gray Street in Coldwater.
