A Barrie Police officer has been charged with assault-related offences following an internal investigation into an incident that occurred earlier this month.
According to Barrie Police, the matter stems from a disturbance call on Monday, June 8th. The incident was brought to the attention of the Chief, who initiated a Chief’s complaint, prompting an investigation by the service’s Professional Standards Unit.
Following the investigation, the unnamed 38-year-old officer was charged with assault and assault causing bodily harm.
The officer reportedly has 11 years of policing experience and joined the Barrie Police Service in 2024. Since the charges were laid, the officer has been reassigned to non-public-facing duties.
In a statement, the service said its members are held to high standards of professionalism, restraint, and respect in all interactions with the public, adding that allegations of misconduct are investigated thoroughly to ensure accountability and maintain public trust.
Barrie Police have not released additional details about the incident, noting that the matter is now before the courts.
