A 20-year-old Barrie man is facing multiple firearms-related charges after police say a gun was discharged inside a north-end fast-food restaurant.
Barrie Police say officers responded to a Bayfield Street establishment on Tuesday, June 23rd after receiving a report from a man who was dining with his children. According to police, the caller reported hearing a loud “pop” inside the restaurant before a young man apologized and claimed the sound came from a BB gun.
Officers were given a description of the suspect, who was located nearby a short time later and taken into custody.
During the investigation, police seized what they identified as a prohibited .22-calibre GSG-16 Carbine, along with a spent .22-calibre shell casing. Officers also recovered a crowbar, box cutters, a flip pocketknife, a small quantity of suspected cocaine, scales and Canadian currency.
The accused has been charged with:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Reckless discharge of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
Police said no injuries were reported during the incident.
The accused was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear for a bail hearing last Friday.
