A 34-year-old Mississauga man has been charged following a two-month investigation by the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit into the alleged online luring of a youth.
The investigation began after the ICE Unit received a report from Uniform Patrol involving a child under the age of 18 who was allegedly being lured and exploited through the social media platforms Instagram and Snapchat.
On Thursday, July 2nd, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Mississauga, where the suspect was arrested.
Police also seized several electronic devices belonging to the accused, which will undergo forensic analysis as the investigation continues.
The accused has been charged with luring a child under the age of 18 and making sexually explicit material available to a child.
Barrie Police are reminding parents, caregivers and young people about the importance of online safety and encourage the public to review social media safety tips online.
