The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) has announced the official names of its two new Catholic elementary schools opening later this year in Bradford and Tottenham.
Following a community voting process, the new school in Bradford will be named St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School, while the new Tottenham school will be known as Our Lady of Peace Catholic Elementary School.
The Bradford school is scheduled to open in September, with the Tottenham school expected to welcome students in November.
The naming process included the formation of a selection committee, community submissions from students, staff and families, the selection of three finalists for each school, and a public vote to determine the final names. The names were subsequently approved by the Ontario Ministry of Education and Cardinal Frank Leo.
According to the board, the names reflect Catholic values that will help shape the new school communities. St. Vincent de Paul is recognized for his compassion and lifelong commitment to serving others, while Our Lady of Peace honours Mary, the mother of Jesus, as a symbol of grace, peace and reconciliation.
“A school name carries a story, a purpose, and a promise,” says Kimberly Dixon, Chief Executive Officer of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board. “Both of these school names reflect the values of compassion, service, faith, and hope that are at the heart of Catholic education. We look forward to building vibrant school communities where students can learn, grow, and thrive in an environment rooted in faith and belonging.”
While schools are closed for the summer, the board says registrations continue to be accepted online.
School offices are scheduled to reopen during the week of August 24th.
