The Town of New Tecumseth marked the 110th anniversary of Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Borden with a special flag-raising ceremony at Town Hall over the weekend.
Mayor Richard Norcross, members of Council, Colonel Melissa Ramessar, Commander of CFB Borden and the Military Personnel Generation Training Group, CFB Borden representatives, and community members gathered on Saturday, July 11th to recognize more than a century of military service, leadership, training excellence, and contributions to Canada and the local community.
“The connection between New Tecumseth and CFB Borden is one built on mutual respect, collaboration, and community,” says Mayor Richard Norcross. “The Town of New Tecumseth is proud to join in celebrating 110 years of excellence and to recognize the countless individuals who have trained, served, and contributed to Canada’s defence through CFB Borden.”
As part of the ceremony, Colonel Ramessar raised the CFB Borden flag and presented it to the Town.
Established in 1916 during the First World War, Camp Borden has grown to become the largest training establishment in the Canadian Armed Forces, training approximately 20,000 military personnel each year. The base is also recognized as the birthplace of the Royal Canadian Air Force and continues to play a vital role in military training and education across Canada.
