A 66-year-old Barrie man is facing impaired driving charges after police say he drove a pickup truck across the front lawn of a home.
Barrie Police responded to a residence on Janine Street at around 7:45 p.m. on Monday, July 6th after receiving reports that a pickup truck had driven across a home’s front lawn. Witnesses told officers the driver exited the vehicle carrying a drink before getting back inside.
When officers arrived, they found the pickup truck parked on the roadway with the accused seated in the driver’s seat. Police detected a strong odour of alcohol and located several open cans of alcohol inside the vehicle during the investigation.
The driver was arrested and taken to Barrie Police Service Headquarters, where breath tests confirmed he was impaired by nearly twice the legal alcohol limit.
The 66-year-old has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired
- Operation while impaired (80 plus)
He was also charged for possessing a speed measuring warning device in his vehicle, an offence that carries a $140 fine and three demerit points upon conviction.
