New Tecumseth Mayor Richard Norcross says Official Plan Amendment No. 5 is about ensuring the Town, not the Province, determines how future growth is planned and managed.
He issued a statement this week addressing the plan:
“My rationale has always been simple: if growth is being mandated by the Province, New Tecumseth should be the one deciding how that growth is accommodated.
“OPA 5 gives us the opportunity to proactively plan for housing, jobs, infrastructure, and community services rather than reacting to growth after the fact. While Alliston will continue to accommodate the majority of future growth, a balanced approach allows Beeton and Tottenham to share in that growth and the benefits that come with it.
“Growth is not just about new homes—it is about building the tax base needed to invest in the recreation facilities, parks, roads, programs, and services that our residents expect and deserve. By planning for growth across all three urban areas, we can support complete communities, spread municipal investment more effectively, and ensure New Tecumseth remains a great place to live for generations to come.”
