A Barrie family is celebrating after police recovered a young boy’s stolen bicycle, thanks to an officer who came across his mother’s social media post.
The bicycle was stolen from the family’s east-end home in June, despite being locked. Hoping someone might recognize it, the boy’s mother shared photos and a description of the bike online.
The post caught the attention of Const. Michael Bradley with the Barrie Police, who contacted the family to gather more details, including unique features that could help identify the bicycle.
After sharing the information with fellow officers, Const. Bradley and Const. Kory Kennedy soon located a bicycle matching the description and returned it to the family.
The boy’s mother later shared her appreciation on social media, saying she never expected police to help recover the bike and was overwhelmed to see officers arrive at her home with it.
Const. Bradley said stolen bicycles often mean much more than just transportation, serving as a way for people to get to work, manage stress, or enjoy a gift that parents worked hard to afford.
Police say while recovering a stolen bicycle may seem like a small success, it highlights the importance of helping residents, building community connections, and making a difference in people’s lives.
