Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is receiving more than $9.8 million from the Ontario government to help improve hospital operations, reduce wait times, and support frontline health care services.
The funding is part of the province’s $1.1 billion investment in hospitals through Budget 2026, representing a 4% increase in annual hospital funding for the fourth consecutive year.
Doug Downey, MPP for Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte, says the investment will support the life-saving work of Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and help ensure residents across Barrie and surrounding communities continue to receive quality care close to home. Barrie–Innisfil MPP Andrea Khanjin adds the funding will strengthen frontline services, improve access to care, and support the hospital’s dedicated health-care professionals.
The investment will support the hospital’s core clinical services, including keeping the emergency department operating, addressing inflationary and wage pressures, and reducing wait times for diagnostic imaging and surgeries. Areas expected to benefit include MRI and CT scans, cardiac care, stroke services, neurology, orthopedics, and cataract procedures.
Deputy Premier and Health Minister Sylvia Jones says the investment is part of Ontario’s plan to build a connected, people-first health-care system by expanding access to care and reducing wait times.
Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is also receiving more than $2.2 million through the province’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund to support critical hospital infrastructure upgrades and repairs.
