Bradford West Gwillimbury will begin installing red light cameras at eight intersections this summer.
The Town recently received approval from the Ministry of Transportation to operate a Red Light Camera (RLC) program after Council approved the initiative as part of the 2026 budget.
These cameras are designed to improve intersection safety by reducing red light running and collisions. The system captures images of vehicles entering an intersection after the traffic signal has turned red. Images are reviewed by a Provincial Offences Officer before a penalty order is issued to the registered vehicle owner. Penalty orders do not result in demerit points or impact vehicle insurance.
The cameras will be installed at the following intersections:
- Line 8 and Barrie Street (eastbound and westbound)
- Holland Street East and Bridge Street/Dissette Street (westbound)
- Holland Street West and Professor Day Drive/Melbourne Drive (eastbound and westbound)
- Holland Street West and West Park Avenue (westbound)
- Holland Street West and Sideroad 10 (eastbound and westbound)
Residents may notice camera installation and testing over the coming weeks. The Town says the cameras will not issue penalties until the program officially launches in September, with additional public information to be released before enforcement begins.
This new traffic safety program is expected to go live in September.
