An Oro-Medonte man is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly being found unconscious behind the wheel of a running vehicle in Barrie.
Barrie Police say emergency crews responded on the evening of Tuesday, July 28th after receiving a report of a man slumped over in the driver’s seat with the vehicle still running.
Barrie Fire and Emergency Service and paramedics located the driver, woke him, and spoke with him briefly before he fled the scene on foot as police arrived.
A police canine unit located the man a short time later, and he was arrested.
The 38-year-old Oro-Medonte man has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Driving under suspension (Highway Traffic Act)
He was transported to Barrie Police Headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
Police are reminding the public to call 911 if they suspect an impaired driver. Signs of impairment can include drifting between lanes, inconsistent speeds, erratic driving, wide turns, failing to signal, driving without headlights, stopping improperly at intersections, or being unresponsive behind the wheel of a running vehicle.
