Barrie Police are investigating after a stolen BMW was destroyed by fire in a school parking lot on Esther Drive.
Barrie Fire alerted police to the suspicious vehicle fire shortly before 6:45 a.m. Thursday, August 6th. Firefighters had already extinguished the blaze when officers arrived, but the vehicle was destroyed. A melted gas canister was found inside.
Police say a nearby resident reported hearing a loud boom around 4:20 a.m. and later noticed flames and smoke coming from the parking lot.
Investigators determined the black, four-door 2015 BMW had been stolen from a driveway in Brampton earlier that day. The registered owner told police the vehicle had been taken while he still had the only set of keys.
