The crash was first reported around 7:40 a.m. on Aug. 22.
According to police, a Honda truck was travelling westbound on Canal Road when the driver encountered a bend in the roadway and crossed the centre line, colliding head-on with an eastbound Lexus SUV.
Emergency crews responding to the crash found both vehicles in the south ditch with significant damage.
Each vehicle only had a single occupant — the driver — while one had two small dogs inside, say police.
Both drivers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The dogs died in the crash, added police.
