Barrie Police have charged two motorists with impaired driving following separate recent incidents.
On the night of Saturday, August 22nd, police were called after staff at a Bayfield Street restaurant reported a heavily intoxicated customer had driven away and nearly struck an employee. Officers later found the vehicle parked on a sidewalk. A 73-year-old Springwater Township man is facing charges of:
- Operation while impaired
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Operate motor vehicle without insurance
- Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit
The next morning, police responded to a report of an intoxicated driver leaving a home on Hickling Trail. Officers found the vehicle running in a Cumming Drive driveway with a 29-year-old Barrie man behind the wheel. Police say he showed signs of impairment, resisted arrest and attempted to strike an officer. Cannabis was also found readily accessible inside the vehicle.
The man faces several charges, including:
- Operation while impaired
- Assault with intent to resist arrest
- Operation while impaired (80 plus)
- Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
Barrie Police are reminding motorists that if alcohol or drugs are part of the plan, driving should not be. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is asked to call 9-1-1.
