Barrie Police stopped 50 vehicles during an early Sunday morning RIDE program along Bradford Street as part of ongoing efforts to prevent impaired driving.
Between 1:45 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, October 11th, officers checked motorists for signs of possible alcohol or drug impairment. Police conducted one Approved Screening Device demand and one cannabis-related search during the checkpoint.
Police report that the majority of motorists stopped were found to be driving safely.
The RIDE program serves as both an enforcement and educational measure, reminding drivers of the risks associated with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol, cannabis or other substances.
Barrie Police remind motorists to arrange a safe ride home before consuming any impairing substances. Anyone who suspects a driver is impaired is encouraged to call 911.
