Santa Claus is making his long awaited return to Bradford West Gwillimbury next month.
Bradford West Gwillimbury’s annual Santa Claus Parade will return on Saturday, November 21st, bringing festive floats, music and holiday entertainment to the community.
The parade begins at 6:00 p.m. and will travel east along Holland Street, starting at Professor Day Drive and Melbourne Drive before finishing at the intersection of Holland Street and Simcoe Road/Barrie Street.
Local businesses, community groups and organizations will take part with decorated floats and creative parade entries. The procession is expected to last approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
Spectators are encouraged to watch the parade from along Holland Street. Viewing is not permitted on Professor Day Drive or Simcoe Road, as those areas will be used for parade staging and participant disembarking.
There will be no parking permitted along the parade route during the event. Available spectator parking includes:
- BWG Leisure Centre, 471 West Park Avenue
- BWG Library, 425 Holland Street West
- 31 Barrie Street
- 24 John Street West
- 29 Drury Street
Residents are encouraged to arrive early to secure a viewing spot and remain well off the roadway, as some floats and marching bands may use the full width of the street.
A portion of the sidewalk beside 123 Holland Street West will be temporarily closed because of ongoing construction. Spectators are asked not to watch from the roadway in this area and to use the nearest available open sidewalk.
All viewing areas along the parade route are wheelchair accessible.
The town is also reminding spectators to follow directions from parade marshals, leave space for families with children near the front, avoid smoking along the route and refrain from setting up tents or other structures that could obstruct views. Residents are also encouraged to dress for the weather and avoid using umbrellas that may block the view of others.
Spectators are asked to respect nearby residents and businesses by staying off private property and keeping driveways clear.
At the beginning of the parade route, Canada Post volunteers will collect Letters to Santa.
The County of Simcoe Paramedic Services will also be accepting donations for its annual Toy Drive. Residents are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to support local families during the holiday season.
Community groups, businesses and organizations still have an opportunity to participate. Applications for parade entries are being accepted until Monday, November 2nd at noon.
Town of BWG Council will present awards for the Mayor’s Trophy for best overall float, Best Commercial/Business Float and Best Non-Profit Float. Entries will be judged on effort, quality, appearance and originality.
