The Ontario government is investing up to $329,900 in surgical services at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital and Stevenson Memorial Hospital to help increase capacity and improve patient access to procedures.
The funding is part of a province-wide investment of $381 million annually, representing a 4% increase in hospital funding.
“This additional funding will help both of our incredible local hospitals increase surgical capacity, reduce wait times and ensure more patients receive the care they need, closer to home,” says Brian Saunderson, MPP for Simcoe-Grey. “I want to thank the dedicated health-care professionals who work tirelessly to provide exceptional care to the people and families across Simcoe-Grey.”
The funding for the two hospitals will be allocated as follows:
Collingwood General and Marine Hospital
- $123,900 in annual base funding for volume-funded programs.
- $85,000 in one-time funding for globally funded programs.
Stevenson Memorial Hospital
- $20,300 in annual base funding for volume-funded programs.
- $100,700 in one-time funding for globally funded programs.
The investment is part of more than $1.1 billion in additional hospital funding for 2026-27, continuing the province’s increased investment in hospitals for a fourth consecutive year.
The funding includes $331 million in base funding to update rates for selected volume-funded programs, including cancer surgery and treatment, adult and pediatric surgery, chronic kidney disease, cardiac care, and stroke services.
It also includes up to $50 million in one-time funding to reduce wait times for selected globally funded procedures, including ear, nose and throat, plastic and reconstructive, gynecologic, thoracic, urologic, oral and maxillofacial, and certain general and pediatric surgeries.
“Timely access to surgery can make a significant difference in a patient’s health and quality of life,” says Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “Through these additional investments, we are providing Ontario’s hospitals with the support they need so they can deliver life-saving surgeries and high-quality care for the people of Ontario.”
Michael Lacroix, President and CEO of Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, also welcomed the funding.
“Demand for surgical services continues to grow across our region, and every investment that helps improve access for our patients makes a difference. We thank the province for this support, which will help Collingwood General and Marine Hospital continue building capacity to meet the needs of our growing population.”
The province says it is also investing approximately $64 billion in major health infrastructure over the next 10 years, with plans for more than 50 major hospital projects expected to deliver approximately 3,000 new hospital beds.
Additionally, Ontario is investing more than $281 million in 2026-27 to support infrastructure upgrades and repairs at 126 hospitals and 67 community health-care facilities across the province. That represents a 9.4% increase from the previous year.
